Happenings from the Homefront
It has been a roller coaster month of highs and lows. Amber’ mother, Brenda, passed away on 09-12-24. Amber had taken her to the doctor last month to get her breathing checked out. They were thinking it was related to her COPD, but a CT scan revealed a large tumor in her lungs. It took a few weeks to get her in for a biopsy. The biopsy was on a Friday and the doctor said it was a highly aggressive cancer that had already spread to her other organs. She was checked into hospice on Sunday and took her final breath on Thursday. Rest in peace, Brenda.
After 2 months of living without a kitchen, the remodel after our big dishwasher leak is finally done. And it is stunningly beautiful. We couldn’t be happier with the work from our contractor, Bryan Shellenberger at BSW Construction (thank you Marty Melton for the introduction!). Talk about being grateful for the little things. Doing dishes in your bathroom and cooking in an air fryer in your living room will help you to appreciate the little things like a kitchen sink, disposal, and an oven! And for someone who thrives on organization, I am finally feeling sane again.
Kai is playing his first season of kid pitch baseball. His new team is the Orioles. His coaches are great and the kids are fired up. I continue to be incredibly grateful for the many volunteers that make your sports possible!
September was a big month with the RV. We drove it from Texas to Auburn at the beginning of the month to get setup for our last football season with the kids at school. Then we rolled back in town for the Arkansas game (Auburn lost). After Arkansas weekend, we stayed in Auburn all week and worked from the RV. We played golf on Monday afternoon and had an amazing dinner with the kids at The Depot on Wednesday. Then some of our favorite people in the world (the Garrett family) came in town for Auburn-OU weekend. It was a hell of a game that Auburn commanded for 3 quarters. Then, there was the 4th quarter. It is really hard to be an Auburn fan this year! But a great weekend nonetheless!
Work, work, work!
We continue helping folks with their real estate needs. Amber is helping one of her investor friends with another potential acquisition for his Airbnb portfolio. I am helping a longtime client acquire land for his next senior living development. And we are negotiating the acquisition of a portfolio of two flex-office buildings.
We are at the one yard line for wrapping up our FDD to be ready to franchise Laundry Luv. I have been pouring myself into the process and am fired up about the future of Laundry Luv and the place we are going to make. We will soon be embarking on a capital raise to fuel our growth to take us to the next level.
And now that LLUV is running on EOS, it is already making an impact. If you are looking to streamline your business and get everyone “rowing in the same direction” I highly recommend the EOS process.
Brain Food (what I am reading, watching, and listening to)
Amber and I just finished Fast Like a Girl by Dr. Mindy Pelz (on Audible ). It explores how women can use fasting to optimize their health by aligning their fasting routines with their menstrual cycles. The book is especially helpful for conditions like Hashimoto’s, as it provides strategies for balancing hormones, reducing inflammation, and improving metabolic health through fasting. Many women are unaware of how crucial their hormonal cycle is in determining their fasting success, and this book highlights the importance of tailoring fasting protocols to their unique physiology. So, we are going to be following the recommended 30 day reset fast as outlined in the book.
We also listened (Audible) to Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself by Dr. Joe Dispenza. By combining neuroscience, quantum physics, and meditation, the book helps readers break free from negative habits and emotional patterns. I have now started implementing some of his recommended meditation techniques.
Our friend John Ruhlin passed away last month (way too soon). Jon Vroman re-released the FRD podcast they had recorded together a few years ago. So many gold nuggets in the episode. It is worth an hour of your time.
Our leadership team at Laundry Luv just finished reading Fans First by Jesse Cole together. We have all captured our notes and ahas from the book. Now we are sharing them and coming up with how WE can implement some of the same great ideas that have catapulted the Savannah Bananas success.
If you want to dive deep into some unconventional health advice, check out the Joe Rogan podcast interview with Gary Brecka. Warning: it might send you down a rabbit hole for additional learning! And you are a fan of the All In Podcast (like I am), check out the Joe Rogan episode with Chamath Palihapatiya.

I have been diving deep into LEARNING almost every single day. I signed up for Masterclass so I could take their GenAI course (this course alone was worth the cost of the Masterclass membership). Then I dove into Mark Cuban’s course, and now I am taking the Richard Branson course on entrepreneurship.
Then I signed up for Mindvalley to take the Somatic breathwork course from Niraj Naik. I am only 3 lessons in so far, and it is incredible. The 20 minute morning breathwork meditation is the closest I have come to the amazing breathwork experience I had in Nashville at the Front Row Dads retreat a few years ago. Thank you to Ricky Dauenhauer for recommending the course from Niraj Naik!
I also dove into Heart Math breathing recently, thanks to the recommendation from Kendall Kirk. Now Amber and I are both regulating our breathing each morning into coherence.
We had a great meeting this month with our local GoBundance tribe. We had a big discussion around succession planning, family trusts, wills, and the importance of annual reviews and getting things notarized. If you don’t have a tribe like that, get one!!
Random Musings
We took Kai to his first big concert. We went to see Imagine Dragons at the Dos Equis Pavilion. They put on an amazing show with high energy, positive messages, and a family friendly vibe. As a bonus, we ran into some of Kai’s best friends he has known since Pre-K. I am grateful to get to be part of those kind of firsts in his life.
Until next time.
Take action and be grateful!
