Happenings from the Homefront
The month kicked off with our annual Wimberly Group Crawfish Boil. The weather tried to play spoiler, but instead gifted us a few refreshing showers right before the festivities—just enough to cool things off and (bonus!) keep the mosquitos at bay. We were missing Grace, Knox, and their crew this year as they were busy wrapping up their final weeks of college life. Even so, I boiled six hefty bags of mudbugs and we welcomed around 100 folks to our laid-back, come-and-go gathering.
The very next day, we swapped crawfish tails for bowties and bourbon at a Derby Party hosted by the Mock Ranches Group. It gave us all a solid excuse to break out the fancy hats and go full Kentucky chic. The party delivered: betting games, a pasture-side golf chipping zone, live music, and a crowd full of great folks. The team at Mock Ranches really nailed it. Already counting down to next year.
Next up: graduation weekend at Auburn, where we celebrated Knox as he proudly walked the stage. He wrapped up his degree cum laude—in just three short years, no less. It was a sweet and sentimental goodbye to more than four years of our lives tied to Auburn, now that both of our oldest have officially become Tiger alumni. War Eagle!
We kept the celebration train rolling with a big night out for our good friend Candance Kirk’s 40th birthday—a Hibachi dinner party that did not disappoint. To spice things up, it was a themed party where each couple was assigned a color, which made for some extra laughs (and some wildly coordinated outfits). Major kudos to Amber for pulling the whole thing together with her signature flair. She even arrived with what might’ve been the most beautiful charcuterie board ever assembled—Michelangelo would’ve wept.
Over Memorial Day weekend, we headed out to the ranch for a couple of days—because nothing says “holiday” quite like a to-do list a mile long. There was lots of work to tackle: mowing, weed eating, cleaning, and far too many hours spent wrangling plumbing issues in the RV (silver lining: we ended up with a brand-new kitchen faucet). Still, we carved out time to fish, play games, eat like royalty, and, of course, cool off with some poolside relaxation.
We closed out the month with a wine and food tasting at the Covered Bridge Venue in Springtown—a beautiful spot owned by one of our fellow GoBundance brothers. It turned into a great evening of fellowship, as we joined several GB friends (and our better halves) to sip, savor, and soak up some quality time together. As a bonus, we got to hand-feed some of their elk herd!
Work, work, work!
Back at Laundry Luv HQ, the team’s been gearing up for our next big franchise show. This month, Amber and I will be representing the brand at the Houston Franchise Show as we continue the search for our next batch of amazing franchisee candidates. Big things are brewing.
On the real estate front, we finally closed on the office-flex-warehouse project we’d been working on for over six months. Wimberly Group Real Estate Advisors teamed up with CHC Development to acquire the 60,000± SF portfolio in Mansfield, TX. The game plan now is to cash flow the property while gradually converting tenants to NNN leases as they renew and roll over. This is one of those projects that makes me very proud of the people I have found in the real estate business. All parties in this transaction were professional, courteous, helpful, and willing to go the extra mile to get the deal done.
The Laundry Luv team has been hard at work executing our Q2 EOS goals—implementing, documenting, and refining systems to better serve both our team and future franchisees. On that note, May marked a big milestone: we hosted our very first Laundry Luv Discovery Day in San Angelo. Key team members joined us on-site, along with several prospective franchisees, to dive into what makes the Laundry Luv opportunity special. Huge thanks to Becky Ross and the stellar crew at Cecil Ross Insurance (our go-to insurance pros) for letting us use their beautiful conference room for the day.
Brain Food (what I am reading, watching, and listening to)
In the last episode, I warned about being careful with what you read or listen to—then promptly ignored my own advice. Last month, I tore through One Second After by William R. Forstchen, a chilling tale that explores the aftermath of an EMP attack on U.S. soil. It’s a gripping (and frankly terrifying) reminder of just how fragile our modern lives really are—and how quickly everything we rely on could vanish at the hands of a few bad actors. I hesitate to recommend this to others, while at the same time I think we should all be aware and (at least somewhat) prepared.
For a much lighter—and far more uplifting—read, I’ve been diving into The 5 Types of Wealth by Sahil Bloom. I’m absolutely loving it. Sahil has a gift for putting into words what many of us know deep down, but what so many forget: true wealth isn’t just about chasing dollars on the financial hamster wheel. It’s richer, deeper, and far more meaningful. My copy is already covered in highlights and scribbled “aha!” moments in the margins.
During my morning workouts, I often listen to The Ultimate Napoleon Hill Library on Audible. His words are packed with timeless, universal truths that still hit home today. And if you haven’t yet caught Schuyler Williamson’s interview on the Matt King Show, do yourself a favor and tune in. It’s full of simple yet profound wisdom. I walked away feeling even more proud—and uplifted—to call Schuyler not just a dear friend, but also my partner in Laundry Luv.
And finally, I read an article this month that shook me to my core. Dr. Kelly Flanagan’s reflection on trauma and how it’s released is one of the most powerful things I’ve ever read—and I genuinely believe the world would be better if everyone understood it. If you read one thing this week, let it be this.
Kaizen
So many wise voices throughout history point to meditation as a keystone practice for connecting with yourself—and with your source. Lately, I’ve been using Insight Timer, pairing specific sound frequencies with deep breathwork to help me drop into that space. When it clicks, time seems to dissolve, and all that’s left is presence.
I’m still rolling strong with my GoBundance workout accountability group, steadily increasing our daily reps month by month. May called for 500 reps a day, and now we’re cranking it up to 600 in June. Kai’s even joined me for a few of the workouts—and knocked out every single rep. Let this be a reminder: your kids are always watching what you do.
Most Thursday mornings, you’ll find me out at 0500 with my F3 tribe, rucking through the quiet streets. We strap on anywhere from 20 to 40 pounds and cover around 5 miles before most people have had their first cup of coffee. Sometimes it’s just a small crew of 3 or 4, and other times we’re 20 strong—but every time, there’s meaningful conversation, connection, and purpose. By the end, I’m charged, fulfilled, and ready to take on the day.
Random Musings
I get nostalgic and both happy and a little sad as I see the Tanglewood Class of 2034 growing up year over year.
Until next time.
Take action and be grateful!
