Happenings from the Homefront
August kicked off with a quick overnight trip down to the ranch, this time with my buddy Ricky along for the ride. Short trip, but it packed in a lot. Deep conversation, fishing, cooking up our catch for dinner, a hog hunt, and some good time with the cows.

I was blessed this month to have dinner with my daughter and one of my bonus daughters. We ate at Oishi Sushi, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite sushi restaurants in Dallas-Fort Worth. The food was excellent, but the time with two of my favorite ladies was what made the evening special.

Then it was back to the ranch for another quick overnight trip (had to take my Ranger into the shop for some service work). This time it was just me and my son Knox. We spent plenty of time on the gun range throwing lead downrange. Also got to hang out with the cows, harvest a hog, and bring home some of Kai’s favorite wild hog backstrap.

Mid-August marked back-to-school time. Kai is now an official fifth grader, his last year at Tanglewood Elementary. It’s truly the end of an era, a place we will always treasure in our hearts. He landed his favorite teacher for the year and was fired up about fifth grade.

We also had some good family time this month. Part of it was one-on-one time, including a couple of dinners with just me and Kai. We also had a GoBundance family outing at Top Golf.
The month wrapped with a weekend in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, with a handful of my college buddies from TCU. There was a time in life when we were thick as thieves, but over the past 30 years, life happened and we drifted apart. The time together was a great reunion and a great reminder of the power of friendships that last through the decades.

Work, work, work!
Work this month has been all about continual progress toward our quarterly EOS goals. Daniel keeps us honest and focused, and it shows in how the team is executing week to week. I’ve also been carving out time each month for one-on-one sessions with our key team members at Laundry Luv, helping each of them set and work toward their own personal and business goals. Those conversations have become some of my favorite parts of the month. Watching people grow into bigger versions of themselves, both professionally and personally, is exactly why I do this work.
We also held another Discovery Day this month, and it was one of our stronger ones yet. We hosted three different groups of candidates, one from Florida, one from North Carolina, and one from Texas. Interest in the brand continues to be strong, and more importantly, we keep attracting the right types of candidates, people who genuinely resonate with our mission and want to build something real.
Brain Food (what I am reading, watching, and listening to)
This month I began reading The Power of Unwavering Focus by Dandapani. The book came deeply recommended by two different people, and I wanted to be intentional with how I approached it. Because of that, I’m reading it slowly and only in stretches where I can actually take notes as I go. My approach has been to listen on Audible while reading along on Kindle, highlighting and jotting notes as I move through it. Slow reading isn’t my default, but this one deserves it.
I also continue my daily morning readings of the Bible, along with my weekly Bible study with Schuyler and the group he’s put together. That hour each week keeps me grounded no matter what else is happening.
On the reading front, I’m still working through The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday each morning. It has become such a steady part of my routine that I barely think of it as reading anymore, it’s just how my mornings start.
Kai has taken a keen interest in the Hunger Games series, so he’s working through the books while we watch the movies together as a family. We’re through the first film and halfway through the second, and watching him get pulled into the story has been a lot of fun.
Amber and I are halfway through season three of Ted Lasso and gearing up to dive into the new fourth season. On the evenings when we need something a little lighter and feel good, we’ll pull up an episode of Love on the Spectrum instead.

Kaizen
I’m now over two months into consistent use of the macro tracking system Claude helped me build. Each day, I take a picture of every meal and snack, answer a few questions about amounts, weights, oils used, and any other details that affect the numbers, and log the calculated macros each evening. I also keep a week-over-week tracker so I can see the trend line and stay on the right path toward my goal.

Random Musings
What is it with me and water bottle? This is the THIRD water bottle that I have left behind in the past few months. Not exactly sure what is going on hereā¦

Until next time.
Take action and be grateful!
